Mt Victoria on fire. Saturday, 17th of January 2009. We woke up around 1am this morning and could smell fire... we checked the church (we live in an old church in Cracroft Street) and our neighbours and when we got upstairs, we could hear and see Mt Victoria on fire. Called 111 and while we were speaking to the 111-operator, the fire engine arrived at our corner (Church St / Cracroft St) – they probably got several calls. Very impressed with our Devonport fire brigade. They were in control in no time and stayed for quite a while to make sure it was an 'all clear'. Great job!
